Q & A with Dr. Zambito
What gave you the desire to become a physician?
My first experience in high school volunteering at a local hospital emergency room was with a patient who had cardiac arrhythmia and was in extreme discomfort. The cardiologist there administered a medication that helped the patient feel better immediately. I was impressed by the rapid results of treatment and rapid improvement in patient status. This had a major impact on my decision to study medicine”.
Why did you choose to specialize in cardiology and electrophysiology?
“I like the vast array of diagnostic and treatment modalities. It’s a challenging field that requires versatility – surgical skills, diagnostic skills, radiology, and ultrasound interpretation skills, to name a few. But what I most enjoy are the patient interactions I have in an area most patients consider to be a critical part of their overall health – their heart health. I’m very aggressive in searching for and treating cardiac risk factors. I appreciate patient input and feel it is important to explain in great detail what my diagnostic and therapeutic plan for the patient will mean for their health and quality of life”.
What makes the Center a good choice for cardiac care?
“From the beginning, we strove to achieve the high standards of the very best health care facilities. As a result of these efforts, we have received three accreditations from the demanding Intersocietal Accreditation Commission. We do our best to provide patients with detailed information about their cardiac health and risk factors and prevent complications of heart disease by aggressive, early treatment intervention. Care is delivered by clinical staff that all live in New York City and are comfortable with patients from many different cultures. Since a large portion of the local population speaks Spanish, most of the staff are bilingual. These facts make us a great local alternative to care in a large, impersonal hospital setting.”
